Rainbow Room
February update:
In the Rainbow Room, we have been working hard on our topic of ‘Arctic Explorers and Oceans’. We enjoyed finding out more about animals from the arctic circle and their habitat, through a range of sensory activities. We have been going to our school café for our snack on Thursdays for the last few weeks and we have all loved this, particularly the ‘café special’ which is usually a sweet treat made by our older boys and girls. In Maths, we have been exploring money and engaging in sorting and matching activities. In Literacy, our stories have all been based around our arctic topic and we continue to work on phonics, pre-reading and writing skills. Weekly swimming sessions are going well and it’s great to see everyone gaining confidence, with some of our boys and girls swimming to the deep end of the big pool! We have been busy doing lots of artwork too, producing entries for a few competitions, as well as Winter-inspired creations! During cookery lessons, we explored how to make margarita and pepperoni pizzas using different types of bases to compare textures and flavours. We really enjoyed the taste test each week! We look forward to making pancakes on Shrove Tuesday after mid-term break!
Rainbow Room February update
Welcome to the Rainbow Room!
My name is Mrs Devin; I’m the class teacher and our classroom assistants are Ethel and Eabha. Our room is a Key Stage Two Nurture Room in the primary department with five pupils.
Our classroom is set up in such a way that it reflects a home environment. We provide our children with a warm, safe, friendly space within which to thrive. We have a kitchen area and a living room area with a sofa offering a calm and quiet zone that the pupils like to relax in. We also have a designated work area of course! We enjoy a wide range of activities each day, with the social and emotional development of the child being the focus of everything that we do. Throughout the day, our children are provided with opportunities allowing them to develop positive relationships with their peers and adults, whilst developing their self-esteem and resilience.
Amongst our favourite activities are art, ball pool, cookery and interactive games. Check out our photos below…
